Rest my soul

Thou desires not mine, O Lord. Guard Thou my heart."

Let this be the beginning of my prayer—one whispered in the quiet, when my soul aches for rest, and my heart wrestles with what lies within.

Rest my soul.
In the One who forgives.
In the One who knows.

Thou desires not mine, O Lord.
Guard Thou my heart.
Let the enemy fail to pierce my spirit.
Protect my body, my mind, my soul.
You give life to what is dead.
You bring death to the noise that drowns.

Forgive my deeds.
Forgive my words.
Forgive my thoughts.
Forgive my sins.

“Lord, I confess—wickedness crouches at my heart.
Behold, it has overtaken me.”

Confess, O soul—thine heart is weary and frail.
But behold, I see light dawning.
I see Thy grace unfolding.

I seek to do good—oh, how I fail.
Yet still, I will rejoice.

“Remember Him who performed for thee.”

He is my comforter.
He is my forgiveness.
He is my hope.

Oh, how my soul rejoices.
For Thou art good.
Thou art love.
Thy love is tender.

Oh, how the Lord’s presence brings rest.
Rest, my soul, in Him from whom all wickedness flees.
Rest, my soul, in Him.
